The sickness that was caused by a new
type of the parvovirus has been cruel to the six beautiful puppies of the Építés litter. We are devastated to
report that Étel, Élet, Érzet, Érc, Éppen and Éjjel have left us forever.
Against this new, aggressive type of the virus, even
vaccination cannot provide protection. Small puppies with their weak tiny
bodies have only a very little chance to survive it.
We are sad and although, no one can replace the puppies
we lost, we needed to look forward as our organisation received two new dogs.
Following a longer planning process, finally Bibir could move to us from the shelter on Illatos street. She is a
rather old lady with mixture ancestors. Although, she had been operated with
mammary tumours, the surgery has not changed her passion for life.
Bibir currently stays at a temporary
owner, but after all necessary health examinations are completed on her, she
will be ready for adoption.
In addition, one of our veterinarians has found an
adorable female mixture lapdog. Hableány, this cotton candy beauty is looking for a new home.
This week, at our Dachshund Breed Rescue Division,
several of our dogs went through heartworm disease tests. Every time we run these
tests, our stomachs are in knots, because approximately every tenth dog has positive
result. We have received dogs from every corner of the country, such as Békés,
Eger, Karcag and Budapest. Although, based on experience, we have developed a
good knowledge of which areas are the most infected with the illness, we can never
know for sure.
Luckily, both Bástya from Debrecen and Mitzi from Füzesabony produced a negative
test. In addition, Szerencse’s test
has also been negative, which is a great result as she had been treated with
the disease for several months. We are very happy for her recovery.
Have you had your dog tested? Do you take the appropriate measures in order to prevent heartworm disease?

During this week, Traubi, the wire-haired Dachshund female from Pápa was sterilised.
Another great news about her that she did not have to spend a long time in our
care. It was love at first sight when they saw her. The love affair has led to
a fast adoption and later a residency in England, where her new family is going
to live. We will make sure that we inform you about Traubi’s adventures in England.
Vadfruttik, the short haired Dachshund mix male, was found by kind people, who did not want to leave him on the streets, but could not afford to take him home either. Officially, we do not take in new dogs during the summer months, due to the low number of adoptions in this period, although we could not do anything but accept him in our care. During the next two weeks, Vadfruttik is waiting for his original owner to show up. If it will not happen, than he is ready for adoption.
Hűha is another dog that we took in despite our rules for the summer months. We had had taken in her companion Mitzi before. Both dogs lived on chains that gave them limited mobility. We just had to take one look at the photos showing her on chain and we no more had any real choice. We took in Hűha, this petite Dachshund mix female, who deserves a better life than she had before. We are going to do everything in our power to help her achieve it.
Dáró, who was adopted last week from the Hungarian Vizsla Breed Rescue Team, was neutered as soon the weather cooled down a little. This means, that we still only give dogs for adoption with obligation of spaying.
Bolka, one of those two Vizsla-Dachshound
puppy mixes who we received last week, has already been re-homed. Well, no one
was surprised on her swift success…!
