We
conducted a deeper veterian examination on the team in Tárnok this week. We
prepared bloodtests, renewed expiring vaccinations, and organised surgeries.
This time we’ve got help from one of our partnering veterinarian teams, whose
members provided helping hands in transporting dogs. Since we are all
volunteers at Futrinka, and we are always short of drivers during the daytime,
transportaion presents itself usually as our biggest problem. We would like to
say thank you for the team of Állatorvosi Rendelő a Sánta Kutyához (Pet Clinic
to the Swayed Dog).
We
also took part of the monthly vizsla hike, which took place in Pilismarót. The
team could choose between two distances. The brave took 11 km, while those who
prefered swimming, took 5 km. We collected donations in the value of almost 40
000 HUF, and got premium pet food in 2 big sacks, alogn with cans and leashes.
Thank you!
Furbó, the jung adult vizsla male walked in to the Council
building of Egerszalók seeking asylum on 15.07.2014. 14 days went by since we
found Furbó, still his original owner has not showed up.... It’s hard to beleive,
since he is a beautiful animal, although we already know that he doesn’t really
get on well with other dogs. Still, it hardly can be the reason, why nobody
misses him...... Furbó lives in a dog daycare at the moment, but we are really
looking for volunteers who could provide him a foster home, as some
socilaisation would really do good to him. Furbó is a real turbo vizsla, who
needs a lot of care and exercise. He does not escepcially suit those who have
never had a vizsla before, but adopting him would be an excepcionally rewarding
task for someone who already has experience with these type of dogs. Just like
every other pet form us, he is available for adoption being vaccinated, chiped
and sterilized.
Tóbiás, the
vizsla cross male and Zseton the
vizsla male came into our care from the pound in Ajka. They were placed in the
kennels in Tárnok.
We
also witnessed two miracles this week, when both Zsizsik and Apát could leave
the hospital and move into their foster homes. Zsizsik has been in a really poor condition, he is under constant
medical watch. Both dogs are settled in in families with dogs. We would like to
thank the families for taking them. Finding foster homes where appropriate care
for sick and weak dogs can be provided, is always very difficult.
Apát was
diagnosed with dermodex, and treatment has began straight away by his temporary
family, who is the happy owner of ex-Futrinka protégé Gomoly (whose new name is
Dali).
Lizza was abandoned by her original owners because of their changed
circumstances. We found her a foster home , but she was spayed beforehand.
During the operation they discovered that a single line of her nipples had to
be removed because of tumors. It’s likely that the other line must be removed
too in the future. Fortunately Lizza and her foster home adjusted easily to the
challenge of this medical treatment. Thank you!
Since
our team of basic activities is heavily in debt, it should have already been
hibernated, and in the lack of supporters should have given up the rescue of
mutts and/or problematic dogs needing help. However this week was not less
intense than before. Fortunatelly after so much excitement we’ve got some good
news we were waiting for for so long.
Odett,
the german shepard girl who was found in Érd, and was adopted in Hungary, but
was given back to us, has left us this time for good and became the beloved pet
of an Austrian family. According to the first feedback she is getting on
perfectly and the family is very happy to have found such a treasure. Our
Austrian partner organisation, AC Austria presented us with Advantix drops
against ticks and fleas, enough for fifteen protégés for a month. Thank you!
Although it was not Odett who got it, we asked her to be the photomodell of the
donation.
The
foster home of Majré, the mixed beagle female indicated that he is going to
arrange Majré’s spay with his own veterinarian, and after that he would like to
adopt him as well, because they are so attached to each other. We are really
happy about this shy beagle girl having found a loving home in such a short
time!
Unfortunatelly we have less good news too from
the group dealing with low chance dogs, since our vet found a tumor in Hecci’s
testis as the cause of his hairfall, thus the old gentlemen went through neuter
surgery last week. Since then the result of histology has arrived, and we know by
now that a benign tumor, with the effect of increased hormon production took
control over Hecci’s body
We
have a new dog too this week. Bingó was found by one of our volunteers in Érd,
and now we are looking for his owner. At the same time his vacination program
has already began, and he’s been mirco chiped too. It wolud be nice to find him
a foster home, not to mention a forever one, thus avoiding the kennel line, but
in case we won’t be able to find any, he can be visited there in the future. He
is a young adult, amiable, sociable and very nice dog.
The
dachshund rescue team finished a very busy week again. We often wonder how we
manage to squeeze so much into a single week, when – we should probably keep
this as a secret, but here it comes – only one of us works fulltime for
Futrinka and the rest are volunteers and very few. There is only a small group
who coordinates and organises the tasks around dogs. In any case, several good
things happened to us this week.
Our
next protégé who found a new home is Császármorzsa the middle-aged shorthaired
dachshund male, who enjoyed our care for a long time, eventhough there was
hardly anything unacceptable about him. After a long wait he moved to Lake
Balaton, into a loving family, where his best friend is a little girl. Since
then he sleeps in a bed, and never ever tried to escape from well-being
(Although he was handed in the pound, because of his constant attempts of
escaping. No wonder, as he was kept outside without anything to do, being tied
up. A family dog goes into the garden only to look around, but knows very well
where he belongs to.)
Our third dog with a new owner went nowhere,
because her foster home became permanent. Agóra the mixed female dachshund,
taken from the shelter in Kisvárda, lives in such harmony with the kids, the
two dogs and the whole family that they couldn’t let her go, decided she must
stay. Naturally we don’t mind, and hope that they will never regret this
decision. We are pretty certain they won’t.
Two
of the dachshunds confiscated fom Csepel left our nest this week. They serve as
evidence in the case against their former owner, therefore we can place them
out only under strict conditions, eventhough we must admit, that only one of
the dogs was adopted succesfully. Csepel
was brought back within few days. To keep a puppy presents a challenge in
itself, and we are aware that the adoption conditions are hard to cope with,
still we honestly ask everyone to respect our regulations, and apply for dogs
only with sincere intention.
Anyway,
Csomó was the lucky one, who lives
in a new family ever since, and after freeing from the burden of the legal
procedure, it will be his final home. Another dog is his company, but there is
a lovely little boy too, to begin life together.
Buxa, one of the black puppies moved from the shelter into a foster home,
where he can start his own life, and to come to know the noises of the city,
and the rules of living in a flat. We are still looking for foster volunteers
at least temporarily for his two siblings, since it’s time for them to learn to
walk on a leash, to become housebroken, and to see what traffic in the city
means......
Amfóra, the mixed dachshund female, who came with Agóra
from the shelter in Kisvárda, left the kennels this week, and moved into her
foster home. From now on she has the chance too to leave her shy personality
behind and became a liberated lady in the city.
Frédi, the problematic wire-haired dachshund male, who came from the pound in
Vác, went under neuter surgery. Hopefully decreasing the hormon levels in his
body will bring on changes in his behaviour too. Frédi is now ready to be
adopted, since he is perfectly ready for his new owners – at least in medical
terms.
We’ve got a new dog in the dachshund team:
Vilinger’s life and work is also not usual, as he landed first at the pound in
Miskolc, then was taken out, but after that his owners gave him away because
problems in his behavior, and after a while, because of his still problematic
manner he would had been taken back, if we were not informed about the case by
the animal shelter in Miskolc. Vilinger is a dominant, strong-minded and gritty
dog, who apparently hasn’t had many boundaries in his life so far, thus he does
not accept somebody else’s will easily. And he gives voice to it, he shows his
disagreement mostly with snapping. Though an experienced owner could surely
handle him, when being at the right place, there’s no problem with Vilinger, he
is friendly and sociable. He lives in the kennels in
Tárnok for the moment.
