It was a
very busy week. We have written about several times. We do not have enough
members. We need more active members who can help the association in every way.
We need members who are dedicated to the rescue effort we make here on every
level. We need people who are willing to sacrifice their private programmes to
help the dogs from the first step to the last. We do need help. We need people
to organize and carry out transportation...There are only very few of us and we
have a large number of dogs. We suffer from burnout and need new people.
Email us if
you would like learn about the Hungarian pointer, dane and dachshund activities
and would like to be part of the team to info@futrinkautca.hu. It is hard work that requires
dedication.
Dixy Dee, the Great Dane has been sterilized
and also had an eye surgery. She will need extra attention for a little while
so she is recovering at the Tárnok kennels at the moment. Her real home
is already waiting for her.
Zina had to leave her temporary family. She is currently waiting for her new owner at a pet hotel.
Gamandor gave us a bad scare. He had
something strange on his face so we took him to the vet. Fortunately, it was
only an inflammation. But of course he was not so happy and did not feel very
well even on the next day. Recently Egres has had a malignant tumor removed
from his face. Mimoza also had a small tumor that actually turned out to be
benign. So we have been very careful with such symptoms ever since.
Gamandor now
is fully recovered from this ordeal and quite ready to go home with the right
person.
Our sweet and
always compatible Elice moved to a foster
family and may soon be adopted. Recently Elic, the ex-Illatos út dog has helped
with our rehabilitation tasks as a therapy dog. We believe Elic is a fantastic
dog. The family is also very excited to have her. We think it will be ok for
them.
Pötyke was brought to us by her ex-owners.
She is a middle aged Parson Russell terrier. Kind of unruly. So far she has had
little information from life so introducing her to all the aspects of dog life
will be a great task of ours. It would be great to find her an experienced and
dedicated foster.
The
Hungarian pointer rescue group this week was focusing on behind the
scenes business. We refreshed the waiting list, scheduled meetings and
created strategies for a campaign that would hopefully reduce the number of
dogs waiting for permanent homes and make adoption more popular.
We did take
in two newcomers though. One is the puppy Rippl-Rónai Alíz, who
despite her young age has already had two owners before coming to us. It
constantly needs to be emphasized that even though pointers are incredibly
friendly and sweet dogs, their need for attention and physical activity is
paramount. They are not suitable for everyone. People often expect a puppy to
be as cute as in the photo. But they also chew up cables, rip off wallpaper and
perform many other puppy tricks that are not so cute. Then people give up
saying they did not want such a bad dog. However, this is normal for a
youngster. Just like kids...
Pataki Berci came to us with a big tumor on his
lip. His first trip was to the hospital where he went through a successful
procedure to remove it. Fortunately, it has not metastasized and we are still
waiting for the full cytology report. He is currently staying in a doggy
daycare but we would love to find him foster care or maybe, hopefully permanent
placement. Unfortunately, it is in the cards that the cancer might come
back.
Zseton went through sterilization this
week. He is an all around wonderful pointer. Unfortunately, the whole procedure
and then the recovery period with the dreaded cone took a toll on him. He
became somewhat explosive and unpredictable. We know that it is only temporary.
It happens sometimes. He will be his normal sweet self in no time.
Katniss found home this week. We are very
happy for this big hearted, uniquely colored Dachshund lady. Usually there is a
greater demand for wire haired dachshunds like her, except for older or special
needs dogs. For some reason, Katniss got stuck with us a for long time. We are
very happy for her finding her home.
Parka also found her home this week. She
first came to us from Nagyecsed as part of a litter of puppies. They all
were adopted but after a year Parka's family was expecting a human baby so she
had to come back to our care. Then she lived with foster parents for a very
long time and we are grateful for them for giving her love and care. Then, last
week, Parka's real family showed up. They already have a dog but everything
worked out and now she arrived home happily.
Pizsi has also been sterilized.
Unfortunately, there is no interest for this oldie-but-goodie sweetheart yet.
We hope though that Pizsi will soon find her place too.
We took in
these two handsome guys this week. Earl
and Sheen came to us due to changes
in circumstances at their home. They do not really know about living outside
the garden. Everything will be new to them but we are determined to prepare
them for all the challenges that will come their way. They will learn to walk
on a leash, what traffic noises are and how to take long naps on a couch.
Hegedű was found tied up in front of
a pub. She started to have problems as she was there for days before a
local resident decided to rescue her. We were able to help only because one of
our previous adopters volunteered to pick up Hegedű and also to foster her. She
is a middle aged dachshund, currently still waiting for her original owner.
She will become adoptable in a couple weeks if no one claims her.
We were
invited to several special events this week. These provide a great opportunity
to meet our sponsors, supporters and people who are interested in adopting a
pet. It is very hard though to always have adequate representation because we
are so few...
The weather
was perfect for our latest pointer hike. We met in Tata at the Öreg-Tó
Club Hotel. It was also the day of a race around the lake so the pointers had
to wait until it was over. They could participate in a sightseeing train ride
or have a cruise around the lake in a boat while waiting. Then at 12.30 we all
went around the lake, a 7.5 km hike, those who wanted more could make a 2.5 km
extra tour to round it up to a cool 10km.
The turnup
was fabulous just like the weather. We collected 76,740 HUF in donations, 16
big cans of food, one grooming brush and two boxes of tennis balls. Thank
you very much.
The hotel
donated 10% of what our group spent on lunch. That meant an extra 6,645 HUF.
Thank you very much for the great day!
We also
participated in an adoption day event. Gamandor, Tóbiás and Blende
represented the Tárnok Kennels. Many children, parents and dogs mingled in
great harmony. All three of our dogs behaved exceptionally well. Tóbiás did
mark one of the straw bales that were there for decoration but this was more
funny than outrageous. All three collected many hugs during the event. Blende
and Garamond had attracted particular attention. We are eager to see how many
will be contacting us in the future for adoption. There was one concern
though in these cases. The people were not able to offer their house for the
dogs. All our dogs need to be kept as inside dogs.
Of course Tóbias was a real star too. Kids
practically lined up to pet him.
Two
volunteer groups from two different companies also visited the kennels last
week. The DM group started out the
week cleaning the kennels. We hope it was not only fun interaction for our dogs
but they also had a great time. We hope they will return on their own to walk
dogs.
Also thank
you for the donations.
The Citbank
group also participated in dog walking later during the week. All of the dogs,
except Vilike went out for a stroll. The kennels were also cleaned again and
everyone got tired by the end of the day.
Days like
these are very special in our dogs’ lives.
Thank you
very much for the visit and the donations!
Also we continued
the education of several of our dogs by Tárnoki Okosok training
course. The trainer team of www.kutyatrening.hu teaches excellent
skills to our dogs. Even though
two of the previous course attendants had been adopted we were able to fill the
ranks from the kennels not to disappoint the volunteer handlers and also to
spread the joy of learning amongst our dogs.
