What happened at Futrinka during week 29?

We had quite a mixed week, with good and bad happenings alike. Several of our protegees could pack their belongings to start a new life, but their places did not stay empty long and besides organizing the vet rounds we are preparing for our next events as well. All in all, we have a lot to do.

Our vizsla breed rescue is over a very busy week, with positive and negative stories alike.

At the beginning of the week Merész of the Muki-family flew out of our care, followed in the second half of the week by Makrancos and Morgó – they will continue their lives in their final families.

Three of our protegees underwent neutralization: Juna, Schöni and Nyafi.

Kispál arrived at our care together with his Dachshund-rescue member mate, Margaréta. Luckily she is in a much better physical condition, but the changes ran her down pretty much, hence we would like to find her a temporary adoptive as soon as possible.

Zselyke arrived at our care from her previous owners for her fear of loud noises, for example during fireworks or thunderstorms. During these she used to escape on a regular basis, this way her owners decided on giving her to our care. Unfortunately many still have the mistaken belief of a dog having his place solely in the garden, though these simple situations could also be handled by indoor-keeping: the outer noises get to them in a filtered version, they get calmed more easily next to people and the possibility of escape can be totally excluded.

One of the sad stories of the week is our ex-protegee, Lipót getting back to us from his owner. Neither his physical condition, nor the environment have we found satisfactory, his owner also waived his rights off him without any special explanation – meaning he is back at us and we are again looking for a final family for him, one who will responsible take care of him till the end.

The routine heartworm test of Szolfézs resulted positive, the worms could be clearly visible in her heart during her ultrasound. We have started her treatment, but the operation on her hernia is inevitable – though this and the anaesthesia going with it are always more risky at a dog having heartworms.

Öcsi’s routine heartworm test and the result of his blood test are positive for microphilariae, also his liver results raised. We have to start his treatment using the slow, but safter method we always do.

Sofi arrived at our care with her brother, Sam from the Füzesabony animal protectors. They are both extremely shy puppies and their adoptive immediately recognized something was wrong with Sofi. She lost her appetite, and though did not have fever or other symptoms, in case of a puppy even a minor sickness is a reason for worry right away. Just to be sure she spent the night under examination at the hospital, was given infusion – for the next day felt herself much better and could go home with her adoptive, getting together with her brother again.

Lizbeth and Elvis got to our care from the Nyíregyháza Animal Friend Foundation, both of them were placed at a family pansion.

Rikó was welcoming visitors, having such a good time together that he became an ownership-candidate. Next week he is moving to his final family.

Móki was found by the Szolnok animal protectors wandering in the street, by his micro-chip his owner could be found – though living abroad for several years. His relatives did not wish to keep the dog, hence waived their rights off him. A thorough medical check-up is awaiting Móki next week, for the unknown-origin filled knots on his neck and leg.

Csongi had a positive heartworm-test upon his arrival at our care, but after his treatment of almost 5 months his repetitive test proved negative, thanks to the slower, safer method we use.

Luckily Frigyes could soon follow his mate, Jóna – yesterday left the kennel row behind to spend the evening already at warmth, with his temporary adoptives.

The group of our chanceless mixtures is looking for a new head, the current manager handed in her resignation effective the end of this year – if some of you feels like to represent the case of mixtures within a renowned organization, please send your applications to info@futrinkautca.hu!

Still, there is a lot to do in the 2nd half of the year, as because of the non-planned effects we have to settle our current team of 61 protegees (just reaching the absolute top so far) to get down to the usual 20-30 members, with which the new leader would take the team over. As a consequence we do not plan to take a new dog for a long time to come, at the same time we are supporting the adoption of our dogs with a more intensive presence.

It might just be luck, but five of our dogs got adopted this week, several of them causing a great surprise – you can imagine our joy over this. We do not even know where to start our news…

Gipsz arrived long months ago from the Kisvárda shelter. Due to a bullet stuck in his shoulder he cannot use one of his front legs, except when swimming. No interest was shown in him, though we have advertised him all over, finally his temporary adoptive decided not to let him go. Gipsz this way got to the best place imaginable.

For Vándor a private animal protector asked for help more than a year ago. Vándor was escaping, did not get tied to anyone, did not get on well with other dogs. A lot of time and extreme amount of training was needed to get Vándor enjoying the presence of people and find reassurance in being caressed instead of watching the fence to escape through. Vándor moved to an owner this week, his partners for walking fell irreversibly in love with him.

Anyone could be satisfied with these miracle-adoptions, but we will just continue…Gimme was re-arranged at our group from the Dachshund breed rescue during the change of management. This untouchable Dachshund mixture lady, avoiding humans and tending to panic was adopted by a very committed family this week.

Lara Jack, the extreme shy Jack Russel terrier lady also moved to an owner – to Kecskemét, to a very nice family, helping her to leave all her fears behind.

From among the Mandulás-litter, saved from the Sárospatak horror plant the 2nd lady, Matrac also flew out, will continue her life as the dog of a young girl. From this family the two boys are also having ownership candidates, they will soon leave us.

We also have dogs with the prospect of ownership, will move only later, but loving families are waiting for them, still enjoying their vacation, renovating their house, etc. The lucky ones, joining the formerly prospective ones are Megan Fox and Mozi.

Picike, the tiny mixture lady needed a non-planned emergency treatment, as her kidney basically stopped down – meaning she did not eat, nor drank. She was hospitalized, got an infusion, but unfortunately did not get really better yet.

Two of our dogs got neutered. Gombos finally got rid of his heartworms, meaning his time for the operation has come, also 10-year-old Jaffy needed to get over it.

To ensure the possibility of a personal meeting with our dogs we will hold a mini adoption day at Kertem (in Városliget) 14th August 2 pm and 6 pm. We will have 10-15 protegees of ours with us, but will also have a flea market counter and gifts. Join us, we warmly welcome everyone!

At the Dachshund breed rescue the week was an active one. Several of our dogs found their owners, for two accident-wounded dogs help was asked for, several got neutered.

Torma, the young Dachshund mixture male arrived at our care from Illatos út, with his leg wounded. He turned out to be a cool, clever and of course beautiful one, after some nice pics raised attention as well. Saturday he could move to a routinous dog-keeper family, already eagerly waiting for his arrival. He is still afraid in the street, but his owners did not panic at this, will solve the problem.

The owner of Stellus, the 6-month-old black-tan young-haired Dachshund lady moved abroad, asking friends to look for a new owner for her. They have asked our help, meaning Stellus got to our care. The teenager girl got to temporary adoptives, training her a lot, improved her behaviour significantly. As for every pure breed puppy, she was also highly interested in, finally after the arrangements and meeting we managed to find the right owner for her. During the weekend she moved to them, already being much awaited. She will get trained, being very important for her, soon becomes a well-educated lady.

Everyone was just moved by the story of Szellőke. Her owner is seriously ill and as could not count on anyone else, responsibly decided to look for a new owner for her beloved 9-year-old long-haired Dachshund mixture dog. We have read his advertisment, contacted him and offered our help. Szellőke arrived at our, we tried to ease separation for both of them, keeping contact with the former owner to reassure him in these hard times. Szellőke became owned very fast, during the weekend. She moved to a family as a first dog, being able to play a lot with the balls with her young owners, being her favourite pastime, her summers are to be spent at the Velence lake.

Margaréta arrived at our care as a member of a Dachshund – vizsla couple. The young, 2-year-old little girl had several ticks, her nose and head being ugly scarred – from this skin scratches were taken, we are waiting for the results yet. Till it arrives, we are treating the wounds with Betadin and Aloe gel, being very efficient so far, hopefully she recovers soon. Till then she is waiting for the letters of interested adoptives.

margareta1.jpg

Picúrka, the middle-aged wire-haired Dachshund lady became very popular after her arrival – no wonder, as an absolutely lovable, friendly clown. During the week she had visitors, falling in love with each other till the end of the date – meaning Picúrka is a candidate for adoption.

dompi6.jpg

From Füzesabony we were contacted regarding a run-over wire-haired Dachshund female. The dog is an old one, went to the street, was run over – since then she was just lying int he garden, could not stand on her feet, that is how one of their volunteers spotted her. Almost a week later, on Saturday Borka arrived at us, is treated at the hospital, getting painkillers. Next week, on Tuesday is her operation due. We are crossing our fingers so that everything is all right with her.

borka3.jpg

The other accident-affected dog is Árvácska, a 3-month-old black-tan Dachshund puppy, also run over, his owner just waived his rights off him. He is fortunately over the operation, is still under observation – for Wednesday his condition gets to transportable, then arrives at our care.

If your conditions allow, please support the recovery of Árvácska and Borka! You can send your donations to Futrinka Egyesület’s bank account at K&H Bank, the number is 10404089-49575251-57561000. Please add as a note: Tacskó/Árvácska vagy Borka.
Thanks a lot!

An adoptive of ours found two Dachshund mixture dogs wandering in the street, most likely Mom and son. The two tiny ones got to our care, we named Mom Ibla, a 1,5-year-old wire-haired Dachshund mixture female, her son is now Bános, 3-months-old Dachshund mixture male.

At the Great Danes Arya had a serious operation this week, the target being neutralization and removing the big tumour on his back. The first night he was a bit peevish yet, but luckily it was no problem for his professional temporary adoptives. Since then Arya is in a perfect condition, his wounds healing nicely!
