What happened to us on the 22nd week?

Are you a team member of group Haver Vagy? Oh, yes you are!
On the weekend, the members of group Haver Vagy! organized a dog-walking event with our proteges in Tárnok. Due to the large number of members participating, our dogs tired out soon, so the animals of our neighbouring rescue organization had the chance to go for a walk with the group as well.
It was an ubelievable opportunity for our dogs: they have flawn out of their kennels! The only one who stayed in the exercise area was Vilike, but he was not sad at all, because this meant he could finally own the whole area. The dogs being all away gave us the chance to disinfect the empty kennels. Thank you so much to all who came out, and we hope that we will have the chance to see this fantastic team again. However, we welcome anyone who would like to take our dogs for a walk!

This weekend we we were invited to the open house of HEROSZ in Székesfehérvár, where we had the chance promote our organization and what we can do for the protection of animals.  The event was successful, a lot of people visited and gave us the opportunity to introduce them to our work.

We had so much to take care of and organize during this very eventful week – vet exams and all the logistics coming with it.

We have welcomed some new arrivals, and we’ve also welcomed back some of our old rescues into the Daschund Rescue – one of them was however a happy reunion, as little Blende didn’t come back from a home; he was lost last October during his rescue operation.

We have found out that he has been in a shelter since Februray in Budaörs (unfortunately, his first stop was in a pound as a captured dog), and unfortunately after first reading his microchip they didn’t realized who he was. But as soon as they checked his chip again, and they found out that he belonged to us, we were informed and we rushed over to pick him up right away. For now Blende lives in our kennels, but he really-really would like to find a loving, calm forever or foster family.

The second dog who returned to us is Magnusz but this was a rather more unsettling situation than Blende’s, because the adoptive family of Magnusz didn’t fulfill any of their duties outlined in the adoption contract. The dog hasn’t been neutered, and as they’re moving they decided not to take him with them. Magnusz is currently waiting for his new family at a foster home.

On top of all of the above, we had some arrivals from the shelter in Kisvárda. They had to move to a smaller area, and didn’t have enough room for all of their animals. This resulted in us driving all the way over to Kisvarda afterhours in the middle of the workweek. As you can see on the map, Kisvarda is realtively far and we sure were very tired when we had to go back to work the next morning.

Our arrivals however are very sweet. Agóra is the most typical daschund mix of them. She is very little, fragile, but she couldn’t deny that she is a daschund if she tried – she can put everyone in his/her place, and she is presumptuous to strang dogs.

We brought Amfóra with us because as a frightened puppy hiding in his house, she had not really caught the attention of anyone, and we are hoping she’ll have a better chance with us. She is very shy, but opens up a little more day after day and shows more and more interest. We would like to find her a foster family at least, where she can learn to live inside the house.

Barnu is a more difficult case, he had been in the shelter for a long time. As a male dog he was on a chain to avoid fighting. Barnu is essentially a nice, active, interested, but dominanant, heavier-boned, long-haired dog with dachshund ancestors.

Also from Kisvárda, Virsli is a daschund-pincsher mix male with demodex, who just moved to one of our veteran foster homes. His foster family already had lots of dogs with demodex and they’ll help him recover quickly.

Rebus, our little sagoin has been spoken for by an other organization’s partner group in Germany. We do know them and there is no doubt that it will be the right place to her. She has fully opened up in the kennels, and she is very lucky, because she can travel to her dream family soon.

Orsó, the blind, wirehaired daschund from Illatos Street had a vet exam – unfortunately they found out that his eyes are inoperable, and he will never see the light of day anymore. On top of that unfortunately - despite all precautions - he had to deal with babesia, so we had to make sure he was treated for it. He is already doing much better.

We also had two departures that week – Rose, the wirehaired daschund female who has undergone her spay surgery and after she moved intho her new home. According to the first news, everything is OK with this lovely, active girl.

The another lucky one was Einstein who came to us from ASKA. He was adopted by his foster family, right after he was neutered

The Hungarian vizsla rescue group welcomed a protege from Kisvárda, Uncle Bence.

Bence is an old mix who guarded his master's dead body, before taken to the shelter, where the first impressions of him were not very friendly. We met him when we were visiting the shelter in Kisvárda for the first time, and we knew we wanted to bring him with us… Now was the time! Uncle Bence knew we have come for him – we were able put him into the carrier without a problem, and so far we cannot really complain about him much. He left his grumpy self next to the Ukranian border, and we are sure that he will show only his smiling, relaxed, playful side from now on.

There were also some important happenings going on with our Hungarian Vizsla Rescue Group. The absolute biggest news of the week is that Döme from Szarvas moved to an potential foster family. Döme is a true working dog, who had previously been treated badly and unfortunately it resulted in a dominant, aggressive behavior. Long months of dedicated work by an American dog trainer who was his foster owner, put things in place in Döme’s mind and finally led him to an potential adopting family. Of course with dogs who ever experienced fear based agression, it is likely to return if triggered, but with Döme it seems like the time spent with his trainer really helped. We are pretty confident that the young, athletic couple he moved in with will be signing the final adoption contracts very soon!

This week, our vizslas, Mara and Citér underwent spay/neuter surgeries - all went well with both of them, so for now, in Citér’s case, only the paperwork is left to be done and the foster family can adopt this lucky dog. Mara is still waiting for her adoption, but she does not have to live in the pension for long.

During the week besides Bence bácsi we have taken one more vizsla, Alfie over, who immediately got reserved, his future family is waiting for him in Germany.

One domestic adoption also happened, Lindus, a former self-walker, busy-body Hungarian vizsla - Setter mix has moved in with a loving family, after a few weeks in Tárnok. We wish them many long and happy years together!

Unfortunately, Fletcher came back to our great dane rescue team. He was adopted some years ago, but his owner couldn’t take care of him anymore. He is very friendly to everyone, and we really-really would like to find a forever home to him.

In addition to Fletcher’s arrival, our great danes in Tárnok gave us a lot of work to do, as both Omar and Dixy were ill.

Omar received treatment to his demodex issues, and was also seen by a specialist. Fortunately slowly, but surely he is getting well.

Dixy initially was weakened by the constant diarrhea, but a diet against giardia and special food helped her to get over it. Her weakend immune system gave in to another mite caused infection, so we can start her treatment all over again.

During the summer, we are always waiting for volunteers in the kennels, every day between 10 am and 4 pm; whether you would like to take a vizsla, a dauschund, a great dane or a cute mutt for a walk. Please don’t hesitate to contact us for the details: info@futrinkautca.hu
