What happened at the Futrinka on the 2nd week of 2015?

The way heirs handle their inheritance tells a lot about family dynamics, family politics and family culture. Also tells a lot about the individuals who are only interested in financial gain but want to do nothing about the responsibilities that are entailed in their inheritance. We receive orphaned family pets that are no longer wanted way too often. We try to find the best solution for the animals even though in our opinion, the responsibilities should fall on ,and should be accepted by, the beneficiaries of the heritage.
This is how we received Csöpike. Her owner died. The new owners scheduled the put down date and generously shared that on social media. This is how we got involved and rescued this 10+ year old dachshund. As it turned out, we were too late. She had an unattended pregnancy, a fetus got stuck on the way out, and unfortunately she was not able to deliver the dead pups. By the time we got her she was already septic and the emergency surgery could not save her.

Csöpike’s brief and tragic stay with us was heartbreaking and pretty much left its mark on the whole week. However, we were busy and there were many good things that also happened that week that we would like to share.

Buxa found her forever home. She was the last of the “bear girls” who had been with us since their birth. Now she is happily settling in her new family.

Also found her place our special need long hair baby Gésa. She has dry eye syndrome, which condition had diminished her sight. Her former foster will keep in touch with her new family and will help in every step on the way to make Gésa’s adaptation to the new environment seamless.

We took over Smink from the Kisvárda shelter where nobody seemed to be interested in this sweet dachshund mix for moths. She only stayed in the kennels for a short time and became one of the lucky fostered dogs. But that did not last too long either because her foster family decided that they wanted to keep Smink forever. She is now destined to live the couch-poacher’s dream forever.

Fico also spent more than a year waiting to be discovered at another shelter. Luckily, shortly after we accepted him into the fold, he was able to move in with a foster family. There he stole the hearts of his fosters so Fico is also off the market for good.

Baby Derrick was found on Christmas Eve in a small village where no one seemed to know who he belonged to. Derrick had no chip or other identification so we took him in. Later, through an intermediary, someone claimed to be Derrick’s owner and that Derrick had ran away from him. Since the person could not prove ownership with any kind of immunization documentation we could not consider this person a legal owner. We knew that we can find one for him though. And it happened this week. Derrick’s new human is a very kind person who will give him all the care he needs.

In preparation for adoption we had several dogs going through neutering operations. One of them is Kapribogyó whom we rescued from the Illatos út pound. While in sedation, he also got his teeth cleaned. Unfortunately, he can be unpredictable sometimes. He is very selective about who he accepts and might snap at others. We are looking for an experienced and dedicated new owner for him.

Kesudió was Kapribogyó’s pound mate from Illatos ut. He is also ready for adoption now that his neutering procedure is completed as well. Getting over this hurdle is an important milestone on the way to finding a forever home. It also means that both Kesudió and  Kapribogyó tested negative for heartworm, which is great news.

Ficko now is also ready for adoption. This lucky pup was able to move in with a foster family after his operation. We also scheduled him a hair appointment for the day before his operation too. He finally got the shape of a very handsome wire haired dachshund.

Szofi and Fruzsi - 9 and 10 yrs old. They are also recently orphaned but we were able to get them in time before they were surrendered to a pound. We have them at the kennels right now but we would love to find a foster home for these old ladies. We are open to any solutions. They would be available to go together or separately.

The Vizsla Rescue had a great week. Although there were adoptions this week, mostly it was about taking in new arrivals.

First one to arrive was Pongrax, a fine-looking 10 months old German pointer. His owner surrendered him to us. He realized that he did not have the time this highly agile, smart and loyal dog demands. He is a great youngster. We are looking for an experienced person who can assure that long walks are part of the daily routine. and who knows about the breed.

We got Anka from Nagyvárad, Romania. One of our long time supporters asked for our assistance and we took her in. Anka is about 18 months old. Currently is suffering from laryngitis but the good news is that she is recovering in a foster home. We hope that having a couch always available for naps will greatly speed up the healing process.

Deres is almost one year old. He was surrendered to the Győr pound. He has unlimited energy and limited education. He is a quick study though. We hope that we will be able to find him an experienced match after he is neutered.

Last vizsla in this week was Müti. Her family was moving and not being able to take her they asked for our help. Müti is a timid young vizsla girl whois afraid of men. We hope that with time she will become more outgoing and open to new adventures.

Doctor’s visits this week:
Old-timer, Pásztor’s medical examination went very well. All his testresults are negative. Most importantly, he has no heartworm so he got the green light for neutering. Nothing stands in his way now to be adopted.

Our other veteran Alex had a cardiac ultrasound as a precaution before his neutering procedure. Fortunately he is in great health so he also will be adoptable after his operation next week.

And now about those who found new homes this week:

Fender only spend two months with us. He is moving to a house with a big garden. He is of course now neutered. Fender will be roommates with a vizsla girl in his new home where they both will enjoy life long couch privileges.

Lukrécia, the dainty little black vizsla mix girl from Kisvárda had found her home. She is going to live the city life with long walks and unlimited daily cuddles.

Oakley the black vizsla mix boy also left us. He left for greener pastures. He is moving into foster care with option to adopt. He will have a cat and a few horses to share his new digs. Oakley has not gone through neutering yet because of a temporary intestinal distress but after the operation he will be ready to finalize his status at his new place.

Very busy week for our Mix Breed Rescue Group. This group rescues dogs with special needs or for some other reason would have a hard time finding new homes.
That said we took over Vakolat from a shelter in Kisvárda. He is a young adult medium size mixed breed male. Very friendly, sweet and also completely blind. We have an appointment for him with a veterinary eye specialist but we have very little hope that his condition can be reversed. For now as first step, we would love to find a foster home for him. In the meanwhile Vakolat is staying at the Tárnok kennels.

Bangócs is also from Kisvárda. Unfortunately she does not get along with any other dogs. She is very friendly with humans though. She would need to be an only dog. She is an English bulldog mix. We suspect that despite she is not pure blood she was used in a puppy mill. Bangócs is also currently staying at the kennels. It is cold there. Especially hard for a short hair dog like her. It would be great if we could find a foster home for her.

Whiskey is still a young puppy. Only six months old and in need of a forever home. He is fortunate enough to have a foster home where he can wait but in his heart he is ready to move. He will be adoptable after his neutering operation.
.

Toldi the young adult Irish setter mix boy came From the Kisújszállás pound where he was staying for a long time. The local animal welfare activists in Kisújszállás started his immunization program and organized his transfer to us. It was great help. Toldi is currently living at the Tárnok kennels.

Pejva was found discarded by the highway near Eger. This Staffordshire mix female does not get along with other dogs at all. We have started her desensitization so that she can be taken for walks on a leash. She will need a lot of training. We hope to find an experienced person who can guide this dog into a happier, more social future.

More vets’ visits:

Floki is over his operation that removed the bun size tumor from his head and a smaller one from his face. The procedure was successful and now we are waiting for the pathology results.

Gipsz had a neurological examination. It turns out he has a bb gun pellet in his shoulder that causes inflammation to the nerves in his leg. Removing the pellet would not entirely solve the problem. His leg can be saved only if its joints are fused or if we can get him a special splint that he would need to wear regularly and provide him with physical therapy. There is a link here where you can see the device Gipsz needs:

The joint fusion surgery is not the ideal solution given the constant pain and its likeliness to solve the problem. We would like to give him a chance to heal completely. While wearing the splint when supervised he will also need regular pt and swim therapy. That requires a very dedicated human to take care of him. He is a very sweet young boy. He has not had the chance to be companion to a person yet. He needs help but he has so much to give to the right person. We hope to find that special someone.

Life is full of surprises. Good surprises that is for Roni, the 14 year old Cocker spaniel who found his forever home in Austria. He packed up his favorite toys in a jiffy not to miss out on this opportunity. We wish him and his new family the best golden years to come.

Not too many special events at the Great Dane rescue but behind the scenes the work is going on as usual.

We started Róza’s immunization program. She also received visitors. We are hopeful of a good match there.

Bella is adopting well. Both physically and mentally. She is regaining confidence. Bella is a kind, calm dog. She has also received her combined booster shot.

It is sweater weather for the Great Danes. Are they not the cutest things in their little pullovers?

Although it is definitely cold outside and it is hard for everyone to leave the warm house. Nevertheless, we would like to encourage you to come and walk with one of our dogs from the kennels. Fury companions are awaiting visitors every day from 10 AM till 4 PM. Come on for a stroll!
