What happened to us on the 41 st Week?

It was in the Terminator movie that we last loved - if ever - the famous „I’ll be back” sentence. We did not wish at all to get to know this during our dog rescue activity. When we after a long reconciliation, prefiltration give one of our dogs to owners then we believe that the dog is at a good place and from that time on it is the owner’s responsibility to take care of the dog forever. We are happy to get news about an excursion or pictures taken at other events but lately we open our emails with stomach stitch if one of our previous adopter email us… Why?

The opportunity that we have forever guarantee on our dogs sometimes means that if there is serious on not so serious problem the dog can be handed back to us. The adopters who seemed to be the most sensitive switch over to being a person who treat dogs like objects and they even expect us to cherish their souls because „poor fellows had to make this very  difficult decision”. Out of several dozen cases there were not even one where we were able to feel honestly sorry for anybody but the dog. Because it is the dog who’s life collapses, who has to make new attachments, who arrives from a flat to the kennels if we can’t find an other way…. It is hard. It is very hard because this is not the way we want to make the adoptions. And hard because with each returning dog the terms of adoption stiffen which is long not only in time but it is exhausting for the small group dealing with it while this should not be our work.

This week two of our former protegees got back to our care.
Melinda the tiny but very timid chihuahua mixture has to say goodbye to the adoptive family due her shyness because Melinda feared the man member of the family so he was not able to take her for walks and that for fear she occasionally snatched even the child. Melinda’s fear and snatching was known by the family when they decided the adoption, they might really believed that they are well prepared to cure her timid soul but they did not succeed. Melinda is waiting for an owner again but luckily she is doing so at a temporary adoptive.

Due to the other returning dog we had a lot of dreamless nights while he was returned with reasons we can not accept as we think those are trumped-up, and with willing they can be solved as a lot of other people could solve them ( change of rented flat, arrival of a 2nd child). Above all we did not find him a temporary adoptive so from a family he got back to the kennels which he knew but did not want to be there anymore. So Bunsen is waiting for again a new owner and we hope that the One will arrive soon. Until then we are eagerly looking for a family who could temporary(which will be a long time while there is no jostling for a Bunsen type dog) take care of him.
Unfortunately the bad news continue: our new parson russel terrier protegee Pötyke had a positive heart worm test so her treatment started. Sadly she is not our first dog whom we have to ensure the heart worm treatment which is quite a bured for us while it is not an easy task, not in time, accommodation and for the soul. If anybody would want Pötyke as a temporary caretaker it would mean so much.

The only bad we could say of our other terrier who is a pure breed jack russel, is that she is very shy and she does not like the idea of sharing the kennel with Vilike but we believe that she will open up fast. And we also belive that somebody during the visit at Tárnok will fell in love with her and adopt Gipsy who deserve well.

This week we got a new dog Guru and with this the number of black-on-white patched dogs increased significantly at the group takeing care of the chanceless. Guru was found by one of our adoptive family and while his owner did not turn up and he did not have a chip we started his vaccination, he got a chip and he will soon go through her sterilization. After these he will be available for indoors adoption.

Lotti our Irish setter girl can soon move to her new family but for this we had to organize her neuter operation. The operation itself went fine but she was tried by it, she is one of the few dogs who is not in a good mood after the day of the operation.

This week Téboly the one eyed, timid spaniel girl had her neuter operation so now she is ready to continue her rehabilitation in a family, in her own, loving family.

During the weekend Egres the old tike got to hospital. On his face a new tumour appeared and his ear infection was so bad that it can be cleaned only in anesthesia and also sampling was needed to give him a chance of recovery.

The Great Dane rescue division received a wonderful girl Szofi this week who is placed at the kennel due to lack of foster families but we believe that she does not need to wait for long for the One. Until then she is happily welcomes walkers at Tárnok.

Dixie Dee spent a long time at the kennels and we are all happy that her time has come. The stitches were taken out of her eyes she recovered fully so she could finally moved to change the kennels for a real family.

Kojak and Tódi arrived together to our care from an owner due to family reasons. They were placed together at Tárnok, they shared the same kennel and they waited for the potential owners together. We had a suspicion that Kojak who is younger and healthier will find an owner earlier but at the same time we had fears for Tódi and how they will handle the separation. Fate arranged everything. Kojak had his neuter operation this week and he already spent the night at his new family. The pliancy went fast, his new family loves him but we are not surprised while who couldn’t love a face like this.

Tódi also spent only two nights at Tárnok without Kojak while one of our fosters decided not to fear this old sir’s whimsies and took him home. Tódi made frienship with the foster’s own dog quickly and now the two sleep together and luckily but not easily Tódi was break of the habit of chasing the cat so now he is more prepared for the potential new owners who are ready to love him.

Izsó got to our care at winter this year and for us it is incomprehensible why only now but finally this week he moved to his new owner. He is the one with immense energy and prior to dog school he needed double time of walk to be able to concentrate, he is the one for whom we worried a whole night while he had partial bowel obstruction but the surgery went well and he’s the one who spent month at a foster family where he opened up and socialized. And he waited long but finally the perfect owner arrived who has the same amount of energy as he does and for sure they will make a lot of excursions and hike together.

Fortunately this week one more dog found her new home. Kele the four months old black pointer mix who spent a couple of nights at one of our accomplished, permanent helper while his foster family was on holiday. This wonderful energy bomb got round her new foster in a day who – after a short reconsideration - decided to adopt her. So the little Kele became a big city girl. So she goes to restaurants, coffees after getting tired in a park and taking a bath in the Danube and as a little bird told us so she will attend dog school when she will be old enough.

The dachshund rescue’s summary begins with sad news because while it was likely that this day will come but somehow we hoped it will happen later. This week our over 14 years old matron, the glittery eyed Gombócka passed away, our little hero who fought and after her tumours, heart worms, epilepsy she could always stood to her feet again and again. But now the miracle did not happen while the wonderbox might have wore out after all those chances. Gombócka got tired and said goodbye. But it feels like she is still here… We want to thank her fosters that in her last five months they treated her as a princess, accepted her in their family and became her owners.

After the staggering news we can inform you about a story with a happy end. The help appeal came from Szeged where somebody through out a dachshund male in a sack by a road and the dog is in bad shape. We organized an immediate transport and we asked our previous adoptive from Szeged to help in with the accommodation of the dog until we get there. It is weird that the finders of the dog called a vet who read the chip but did not notify the owner who immediately contacted us when we posted the picture of the sack-rescued, slim dog that he could be their pet Ropi. So for the happy end a Szeged-Budapest transport was needed, the cost of which we could use for something else but the bottom line is that the dog arrived back to his original family.

From our care Ajkai Frici found his family as quick as lightning, this wire haired dachshund mix guy seduced his fosters as much as they were unable to give him to somebody else. It is a great pleasure for us when a protégée and a foster get so well together and we surely lost a foster family but we won a great owner.

Sheen, the long haired dachshund male also did not spent a long time with us. After a negative heart worm test his neuter surgery was done and at the weekend he moved to a loving family where a previously adopted dog from Futrinka Association waited for him.

Kapirga the special colored girl is a member of the twice adopted group. At her first place she did not get the chance to fit in the family in her own pace. We hope that at her new owner she will get the tranquility and thought she needs.

The timid dachshund mix girl from Kisvárda Amfora was given for adoption after a couple of days living together to one of our previous adoptive. Amfora is going to be the dog partner of Lunda.

This week we arranged several visits to the vet and unfortunately we have a lot to do. Primo the dachshund mix male with injured pelvic was at a control x-ray while we were not sure that his recovery is going well. Based on the x-ray there was a vet who would made the surgery but we consulted two bone surgeon who are acknowledged not only by us but by the veterinary society and they did not recommended the surgery. So Primo will not undergo the operation but will recover slowly and is looking for a new owner. The neuter surgery is ahead of him but we would be very happy if someone would apply for this pure soul dog.

Hegedű the dachshund mix lady had a neuter surgery and from now nothing could stop her to find a new owner while the previous one did not apply for her and she did not have a chip. One applicant would be necessary while without a family she can not find home.

Unfortunately Tina the wire haired dachshund lady who was operated with cruciate ligament rupture had a positive heart worm test so her medication also started.

Our other heart worm positive team  Mindig and Azonnal is not considered healthy after a treatment with doxycycline and Advocate while in them not only the larva of the worm but the worm itself can be found (reminder: none of them is a southern export dog, they were thrown out by a road at the northern part of Hungary). Against the full-blown worm a virtuous but higher risk and more costly intervention is needed. We reached the point where we have to make a decision whether to set out for the road and start the course of poison injections….And to top it all symptoms of pseudo-pregnancy appeared and their neuter surgery can not be done until they are heart worm positive.

So we will not be bored in the forthcoming period is ensured by the newcomers beside our present protégées. This week we got a lot of new dogs. We already mentioned Sheen but with him arrived Earl the long haired dachshund male who was accommodated at foster’s. After a negative heart worm test he had his neuter surgery so he is ready to move to his final home if he would have a serious applicant.

We enriched with four wire haired dachshund. From owner arrived Bakszakáll the seven years old standard dachshund male. He is very human centered, friendly, calm, good nerved and a willing to comply dog who is perfectly behaved with any other dog. He was accommodated at foster home but we hope he will soon find his new owner.

Hölgymál is a five years old light brown wire haired standard dachshund lady who also arrived from owner. A hear worm test is waiting for her which will be followed by a neuter surgery. We hope she won’t wait too long for a new owner but for some reason the wheat colored wire haired ladies got stuck with us for a longer time due to unknown reasons
.

Lizinka is a three years old wire haired kanichen lady who arrived from a breeder. She was also accommodated at foster’s but we have an applicant for her from the previous applicants who wanted a smaller dachshund girl so beside the preparation for neuter surgery the organization of their meeting was done.

Also arrived from a breeder the seven weeks old wire haired miniature dachshund girl Rence/Rece whom the breeder did not want to sell due to her bite error but wanted to find her an owner with neutralization obligation. We are eager to find her the perfect home but until then we started her vaccination procedure.

During the weekend we took part on the two days program of the Komárom CACIB where we had the chance to present our rescue activities. We find it important that our name emerge at places where breeders, breed clubs representatives are present so we can inform them about our existence, goals and results. We want to thank our volunteers participating on the event for spare their time to represent Futrinka Association!
