Animal Protection from the Comfort of the Armchair

Animal Protection from the Comfort of the Armchair

Getting out does not mean the dog is rescued
You can read more and more often about non-governmental organizations that do not do their job in the proper way and we must realize that, unfortunately, there are groups that turn the problems of the needy to their own advantage. There are also groups with a lot of enthusiasm but no resources and as they do not see the reality, they can only maintain a situation rather than solve a problem.
But the majority of them are not like that!

Not all civil organizations are like that. So all negative criticism and all accused or arrested organizations just destroy the reputation of the NGOs in general. The reputation of those who are by now trying to fight a problem they never caused doing everything they can and even more.

The reason animal protection exists is not because animal protection organizations throw out dogs. They are not those irresponsible owners. They are the ones who follow their hearts and keep the laws and do their best to provide the missing chip, vaccinations, deworming, arrange the sterilization, safe housing, feeding and advertisement for dogs. This work requires much more time and energy than they ever expected and in many cases this is what makes them give up.

It is not a secret that willingness to donate has never been very high and non-profit organizations collect their funds mostly from the payment of the members and from the 1 percent of taxes. Sometimes more money is spent than they have but experience shows that this only triggers a debt spiral with no way out. However, it is very hard to be logical sometimes even impossible as who could leave an injured animal behind....?

Mokka was rescued first in 2006 and now he is under our protection again

It is also common knowledge that most NGOs do not have employees to manage the organization, organize and coordinate, to manage legal representation, prepare accounting, put together ads, transport and manage everything else. And in several cases no volunteer has experience in company management or even if there is one, they have very limited time to manage the NGO with full energy. It is not just an excuse but most NGOs are not professional organizations but a group of volunteers with a lot of enthusiasm. This way it still keeps the law but there is no ’CEO’ and ’paid staff’ to manage the issues of the company – sorry, organization in eight hours per day.

Redőny was waiting to be put to sleep at a dog catcher's in the country. Now he has a family!

So it is no secret that we do several things. We run to injured dogs after work or write introduction materials or records. Most volunteers do this while they have their own work, typically in another area, which is not about animal protection or animals and family and private life. Mostly they are just a small group of people. Very few of them have spent minimum five years working in animal protection. Most of them just have a period of enthusiasm and provide ad hoc support and then leave.

In animal protection you cannot give up your work. You are not only responsible for the animals you are currently supporting but also for the ones you have ever given for adoption. You feel responsible not only for the animals you care for but also all that you have ever rescued. Not because we are sentimental but because this is the point of animal protection. For those who just help in a project or from time to time are involved in the work of an organization but then just give up without any bad feeling, for them animal protection is just a hobby like stamp or napkin collection when you are a child.

Belonging to the Futrinka group isnot just a feeling it is a responsibility

Let’s see our situation: we do not have many members unfortunately. We need more people  as the ones who manage all the issues of the organization are getting tired and burnt out. We badly need enthusiastic and committed people who want to help. Who understand our principles and accept them rather than just create ideas in the armchair about animal protection. From there it is easy. From there you do not need to find a place for a dog immediately – either because it is injured, or must be rescued without delay or because its temporary caretaker cannot keep it for any longer. From the armchair no dog gets ill, the bank account does not get empty, no dog is thrown unexpectedly into the garden, you do not need to use and destroy your own car to manage transportation and, most of all, you do not need to give up anything you do not want. In real life you have to as animal protection is more than a hobby you do whenever you want. We continuously look for volunteers who walk and transport the animals, understand and accept our principles and join our work from organization to legal issues to the coordination of specific activity groups.

We are humans and we also make mistakes but one thing is sure: in this Association all donated HUF is spent on dogs to support their lives. Although in theory we could have an operative ’director’ to manage the daily issues, we prefer to save this salary and do the work ourselves to spend that money on dogs who need to be rescued thanks to irresponsible people.

We are not unlimited either. We often feel we do not have any energy left but... Who could stop the world and switch off the heart and feeling of responsibility? We cannot.

If you would like to join, come. walk the dogs, be our member and learn more about us. Understand the reasons. Do not spend the time thinking about their effects only. You should want to see how we rescue and want to join our activity.
We are happy to see everybody who want to work. Those who want the comfort of the armchair will never be brave enough to come forward to the real world.

Their happiness makes us also happy.

Futrinka Association was established in 2006 and has been doing their work responsibly without any break based on their own very high principles. Yearly about 500 animals are provided care. No animal is put to sleep. If we do not have place or have other issues, we look for solutions. We take full responsibility for our animals. We only employ paid staff to care for our dogs in the shelter. The staff are legally employed and all taxes are paid. Everything else is done on a voluntary basis. We would like to plan safely in the next period, too. For this we need You. (info@futrinkautca.hu)
