What happened to us on the 36 th Week?

We were invited to Azúr Dog Training Academy in Erd to a Cuddling With Puppies family event last weekend. It was an offer we simply could not refuse. We met several happy dogs and their families who were previously matched up Futrinka. Many of our dogs who are currently living with foster families and of course many families who are thinking about adopting a fury family member.
Our representative, Dixy Dee the great Dane did a great job collecting all the treats and hugs for many long hours. We are very proud of her.

The Vizsla Rescue Division closed a successful week. Three Vizslas were adopted. Unfortunately, one dog already came back to us. We try to consider all circumstances before the adoption and we hope that by the time comes to sign the adoption contract, the new owners have a good idea what level of commitment it takes to care for a dog. Getting back in the kennels after a short time spent with a family can have devastating effects on the a the dog. This renewed experience of abandonment can hut more than anything else.

Jolánta, 3 year old wire haired Vizsla was found as a skinny stray in Jánkmajtis. She settled into temporary accommodations with one of our association members after her arrival. Within two weeks though it became evident that she was not going to need to move ever again. She is now a happy, forever member of her new pack.

Kele, the 4 months old Vizsla mix accomplished the very same feat. She stole the heart of her substitute foster parents while her regular fosters were on vacation. It took only one day for them to surrender to the puppy charm this little rascal is radiating. Happy trails to you Kele!

Lizza who came to us from a puppy mill situation and was referred to us by concerned neighbors, had a visitor last week. The first meeting went so well that she would be able to move into her new home in mid September.

Uborka spent only two weeks with us before his adoption. Unfortunately, as it turns out, the couple adopting him was not entirely ready for the commitment. Now he is back in our care and currently staying in a doggy daycare, trying to make sense of it all.

Our new arrival this week was Deby. She was found in Fehérvár, injured, after an obvious hit and run accident. She is now recovering after a successful operation on her hind leg. Three weeks of complete rest is expected of her. It is not as easy as it sounds when it involves a young German pointer…

Darka’s quarantine period is over. She in staying in a doggy daycare. She is busy spending her time just rolling with the pack while waiting for her new humans to find her.

We had a major breakthrough with Szikra. Since his arrival, his foster parents had been constantly training and socializing this young boy. He had been making strides and he got as far as play with other dogs while wearing a muzzle.
He recently moved into a boarding school while his fosters went on vacation. This is where the magic happened! Now this reputedly unpredictable Vizsla started normal interaction with other dogs. Now he is allowed to play still under strict supervision but without a muzzle. Great news indeed!

Two of our sweet, mixed breed puppies flew the nest last week. Unfortunately, one of them had to come back. It is Párna. She is back in the fold. We are sorry that she did not find her home yet but also happy that we know, this fragile girl with the troubled past is safe and gets all the care she needs. She had come to us after a botched spaying procedure. Her scars still need special attention and care for a while longer. We do hope though that she will find her home.

Boggy, the little furry tornado, did find her forever home in Austria. We wish you the best Boggy!

Our grouchy Gordon setter Beni G. tested negative for heartworm infection. That made it possible to get him through the neutering procedure and on his way to the adoptable status. He had been pretty much neglected in his past life. We will be working with him to open up, socialize and to make this sad and lonely boy happier.

We have a wonderful partner organization in Germany. They help us finding solutions for some of our more challenging  cases. Elice seemed to be a good candidate for moving into their care. Upon her arrival she was scared, aggressive with other dogs and snapping at people. All this changed drastically though after a rehabilitation course that Elice went through here. She is now a perfectly happy and affectionate young lady who needs no special care of any kind. She is looking for a new home. Since we were able to remove Elice from the special care list, we are thinking maybe to send Egres to Germany where he could spend his last days in a family environment instead of being caged up in a kennel.

Or Dachshund division was mainly concentrating on behind the scenes chores this week. These are not spectacular happenings, like an adoption or an appearance at a family event, but all very necessary in order to keep our dogs healthy, safe and ready to go when the right person comes to take them home. Getting them up to date on shots, processing them for necessary vet procedures,  getting portraits made, public relations with previous adoptions and so many tedious little things that are really the seed of future success stories. These too need to be done.

Janke found her home this week. This timid little mini Dachshund now lives in her own home with her patient humans who will love her for the rest of her life so she can take her time to open her heart to them.

Tükör, whom we rescued from the Miskolc Pound moved to a foster family with the option to adopt. We hope that this arrangement will work out fine for both Tükör and his foster family as well. He is such a great dog, we are very hopeful for him.

Great news from our Great Dane branch. Zina was adopted this week! She found her forever home at last. Zina did not spend any time in the kennels when we first took her in. Her fosters instantly turned into adoptive parents after and her life seemed to be settled. Unfortunately, as time passed, she and the family’s other female Great Dane did not get along. So eventually she did end up in the kennels in Tárnok. She was heartbroken and lethargic for days. While back at Tárnok, she did attract considerable attention but the real deal was eluding us all. Then we first received a promising inquiry and shortly after a meeting took place. We were so hopeful. Now all the angst and uncertainty are behind her. A long journey awaits Zina to her new life where she can have her happily ever after in her dream home.
