What happened to us on 35th Week?

We have a wonderful sponsor, www.vauvau.hu professional pet photography. Csanád, the man behind the camera, had conducted several photo campaigns in the past few month for us so we can present our puppies in the best light. These pictures are high quality, professionally made portraits of our dogs waiting for adoptive families. The lighting, the image quality, the composition all just simply amazing. This week Csanád made studio pictures of the Great Dane Division’s dogs. Thank you very much for your support Csanád!

We received four puppies to our Great Dane Rescue this week. The five-month-old pups are Panka, Manka, Hogan and Logan (two girls and two boys). They are waiting for their forever families in foster homes. We are super grateful for this arrangement and really appreciate the dedication of our foster families. Great Dane puppies can be quite a handful…

Párna, one of our mix breed rescue from the Miskolc pound, had to go through some more surgical procedures this week. We requested second opinion on her condition. It turns out that she had hernia and other complications related to hernia.   Párna had an emergency procedure and seems to be feeling much better after the critical first 24 hours.  She is now place in a doggy hostel. We did not have the heart to bring her back to the kennels after all her recent ordeals. She so deserves to have as close to normal doggy life as possible. Awaiting for adoption at the hostel for now.

Téboly and Mánia, two youngish Spaniels, were spayed this week. Immediately after their arrival they went to heat. No doubt as a result of going through much prior to finding us and safety. So the operation had to be postponed for awhile. Now they are both adoptable. Actually, Mánia is already living with her new family as you are reading this summary.

The Mixed Group did take in Beni this week. He is actually a full breed Gordon Setter who happens to be nine years young. He lost his home due to divorce and does not fully understand yet what is happening to him. On his first day he snapped at us during bathing and flea control. We hope that he will get back his bearings soon and we will eventually meet the gentleman that is inside him.

Tapír, the gorgeous wire haired German pointer who came to us directly from his previous owners per the recommendation of the Siklós pound, moved to a foster family. He is awaiting neutering in a family environment and will be eligible for adoption shortly after his operation.

Matutka moved to one of our most experience foster caregiver this week. This four-month-old Vizsla was found recently with a broken femur in Szigetbecse. Now she is postoperative and everything is in her favor to fully recover. That should start with a mandatory three weeks of “bed rest” for her. Even though we are sure it will be bed rest, adolescent Vizsla style.

Two of our Vizsla rescues moved to adoptive families in Germany this week. Ginna (2 yrs) only spent two months with us. During that short time she was just  having fun and mostly getting familiar with various water sports.  Pari (3 yrs) came to us because her owners moved abroad. She rolled with her foster pack while in our care. Truth is that she also learned a lot from her foster humans. Good luck to both of you girls!

The theme for this week at the Dachshund rescue was adoptions! It is great news. The whole organization is understaffed but this branch is the most acutely shorthanded. It is very difficult to coordinate daily chores, vet’s visits, photo shoots, ads and also to answer all the incoming emails.

The best news of all is that Mérges found his home. His new family came for him from Germany. We are all very happy for him! Mérges came a long way from being a wild, unruly, prone to frenzied rage dog to become an open, friendly and enthusiastic animal. When we first picked him up at ASKA, we were only able to get him vaccinated by using a catch pole. Good thing we are familiar with such techniques so we can gently perform it when the need arises. Then, day by day he started to open up and then the magic happened. Someone fell in love with him. Be happy Mérges!

Also delighted to let you know that Gizi, aka  Poultry Menace, also found a loving home of her own. We wish you many happy, chicken free years you sweet and shy girl!

Perhaps not surprisingly, Hester the wire haired kaninchen (rabbit hunter) Dachshund is no longer our ward either. She will be living the urban life in the 3rd district of Budapest with a  fellow wiener dog. Happy trails to you little Hester!

Cunika’s fate was sealed after the first date. We sort of had this feeling about her that she could wrap anyone around her paw in no time. She is such a sweetheart and also strikingly beautiful. With this combination, it was just a no brainer. Really.

Csikó, another one of the Dachshund puppies from the Csepel puppy mill seizure case just moved to a foster home with the option to adopt. We are very happy that he is with a family now. As we reported recently, all criminal charges were dropped and the dogs that were held as evidence had been ordered to be returned to the former suspects. The Animal Advocate League did appeal this ruling. While still in legal limbo, we are working on finding homes for these dogs. We are disclosing the status of these puppies to the perspective adopting families and keep hoping that the ongoing adoptions would take precedent over current ruling of returning them to the dog traders.

Csepel is still waiting for the right person who would take her/his chances and give him a home despite the possibility that he could be legally repossessed by the former suspects.
